At Little Rascals our curriculum, which is designed with weekly themes, focuses on expanding the children in all areas of development and provide them with the opportunities to be curious about the world around them.

Through these themes the children will be preparing for Kindergarten.

The activities increase with age and the children are taught letter and number recognition, sounds & words associated with letters, basic writing skills, simple spelling, charting and patterning and much more!

Our preschool program is structured, outlined, and posted in the classroom for you every week!

9:15am - 9:30am          Children Arrive; morning work

9:30am - 10:00am        Circle Time: welcome song, calendar, days of week, weather, seasons, ABC’s, colors & shapes, letter of the week, and assign jobs.

10:00am - 10:10am       Teacher will read a story to the class

10:10am - 10:20am       Snack time

10:20am - 10:45am       Practice writing names/sight words at table

10:45am - 11:20am        Center Rotation/themed craft/letter of the week activity

11:20am - 11:35am         Go outside for playground fun!

11:35am - 11:45am          Music and dancing

11:45am                           Pick-up time

Physical Development

Potty training, using utensils skillfully, teaching about healthy sleeping and eating habits.

Gross Motor Development

We provide areas for the children to walk, run, climb and balance.  We provide balls for the children to throw and roll.  We dance and exercise daily and do many other activities to enhance their gross motor development.

Math

Counting, sorting, matching, puzzles, calendar and hands on learning activities.

Science

Exploration, weather, discovering and hands on activities and experiences.

Computers

Introducing technology.  Learn the parts of the computer and how to use it. Play interactive learning games to teach reading, spelling etc.

Music/Movement

Singing songs, finger plays, flannel board nursery rhymes, dancing, and parachute play and musical games.

Art

Coloring, painting, using different materials and textures giving the children the opportunity to create, explore and individualize their work through hands on activities.

Sensory / Tactile

Introduction of different tactile materials.  Learning through the senses: Smell, touch, sight, hearing, taste and through hands on experiences and activities.

Fine Motor Development

Stringing beads, placing pegs in pegboard, pouring liquids and sand into containers, building blocks, drawing with crayons, markers and pencils, using scissors, using the computer keyboard, etc.

Emotional Development

Providing the children with a loving and nurturing environment.  Having consistency in their schedule for security. Hugging, cuddling, talking and singing to the children.  Teaching to use their words when they need or want something.

Intellectual Development

Reading stories, nursery rhymes, songs, flannel board activities, flashcards, shapes, numbers, letters, etc.

Language and Communication Development

Letter, number and picture flashcards, teaching to take turns during conversation, finger plays, rhymes, songs and stories, sequencing and retelling simple stories, talking in front of classmates and controlling volume of voice.

Language Arts

Speaking, listening, reading and writing.  The use of books, language experiences, drawing, role playing, etc.

Social Development

Engaging in playtime with the other children, sharing objects, dramatic play, and learning centers.

Foreign Language

Introducing Sign Language, music in different languages, Spanish days of the week, months, colors and basic words.

Circle Time

Learning names during the Hello song, stories, songs, colors, shapes and flashcards for recognizing letters, numbers and everyday objects and people.
