Little Rascals provides full-day options for UPK parents who want their children to participate and acclimate to a full-day setting. Additional we provide options for the weeks school is not in session. At our center, your child will have the opportunity to participate in a multitude of extracurricular activities such as Field Trips, Jump Bunch, Music and Movement, Group Story Times, Special Holiday Events and move seamlessly into our enjoyable and lively Summer Camp Program. Many past UPK parents have used our Summer Camp Program to acclimate their children to the upcoming school year at Little Rascals.

 

9:15-9:30: Familiar review activities are ready on the table as children arrive. Examples include: name tracing sheets, letter of the week coloring papers and theme related books.

9:30-9:45: Morning Message: This includes, good morning name songs, calendar, weather, letter of the week review (song) and introducing and discussing the weekly theme.

9:45-10:15: Independent and teacher guided Learning Centers: Examples being, dramatic play, building and construction, library and media quiet corner, writing table, collaging table, table top manipulatives, science box and rice table.

10:15-10:30: Regroup and Storytime: Story is theme related and appropriate literacy technique is modeled for children’s vocabulary and comprehension development.

10:30-10:45: Wash hands and snack

10:45-11:10: Theme related Art project- Children are introduced to a variety of art media to complete theme related art projects. Items include glue, paint, crayons, google eyes, pom-poms, scissors etc.

11:10-11:30: Outside play on our playground weather permitting, or in our indoor playroom. Our outside playground is equipped with age appropriate climbing apparatuses and interactive equipment. Our indoor playroom also has age appropriate climb and slide equipment as well as individual learning centers such as a kitchen room, train room, reading center, construction center and dramatic play areas.

11:30-1145: Wash hands and pack up back packs for dismissal.

Classroom Learning Centers

Our classroom centers are clearly labeled with the center name and corresponding pictures. For example, our blocks and construction center will have both the written word as well as pictures of blocks, cars and trucks in a clear spot visible to the children. Each center is well defined and accessible to all children. For example, centers can be divided by both book and toy shelfs, tables and desk tops

creating separate centers throughout the classroom. Material in each learning center will change according to theme.

Sample Centers

Blocks and Construction- Different shape and size blocks, cars, trucks, play figures, road rugs, trainsets, memo pads and colored pencils.

Dramatic Play - Kitchen set with refrigerator, stove, cabinets, baskets, toy food, dolls, dress up clothes, table and chairs, shopping carts, baby strollers, menus, writing pad, colored pencils and crayons.

Library & Media- Wide variety of picture books, storybooks, age appropriate magazines, soft pillows and chairs, recorded stories and head phones.

Language arts writing table- Paper, pencils, markers, crayons, colored pencils, letter and number stamps, write and wipe writing pad with dry erase markers and stickers.

Science and Nature- Microscopes, magazine glasses, magnetic wands, crystals, rocks, seashells, fossils, animal and plant photos, nature books, measuring cups and bowls.

Math and manipulatives- counting blocks, pattern cards, teddy bear counters, number card games, magnetic numbers and cookie tins, sequencing cards, puzzles, peg boards, lacing cards, number books, flash cards and number and letter card games, coloring books, crayons.

Sand/ water table- measuring cups, spoons, shovels, sand toys funnels, boats, buckets and toys.
